The Catholic Bishop of Portsmouth has welcomed the appointment of the new Pope, a 76-year-old Argentinian Cardinal who will be known as Pope Francis. The Right Reverend Philip Egan said the decision was a complete surprise, but God's choice for the Catholic Church at this time.
