An elderly woman was found dead by firefighters attending a bungalow fire in Worthing this morning.
West Sussex firefighters were called to the detached bungalow on Limetree Avenue at 2.30am after a neighbour raised the alarm.
Two engines were at the scene within minutes and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began a search of the property. One female casualty, believed to be the sole occupier, was found inside but had already died.
A third fire engine was called to help extinguish the fire, which has caused severe damage.
Fire investigation officers are currently at the scene working alongside the Police to establish the cause of the fire. At this early stage the death is being treated as unexplained.
