A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a fatally injured woman in Wiltshire.
Police were called to an address in Maple Way, Amesbury, shortly before 10:15pm last night, where they found a 45-year-old woman with serious injuries.
She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital but later died.
A 49-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, a Wiltshire Police spokeswoman confirmed.
The investigation will be led by the major crime investigation team under Operation Brunel and at this early stage it would be inappropriate to release further details regarding the circumstances of the death.
The major crime investigation team supported by uniformed colleagues will be carrying out enquiries in the area and anyone who has information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
The victim has not yet formally been identified but her next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on later today.
