Shortly before 10:15pm yesterday evening, officers were called to an address in Maple Way, Amesbury. Officers were quickly on the scene and a 45 year old woman was located with serious injuries.
She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital where she sadly died.
Formal identification has not yet taken place but her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers. A Post Mortem Examination will be carried out today.
A 49-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody.
At this early stage it would be inappropriate to release further details regarding the circumstances of the death.
The Major Crime Investigation Team supported by uniformed colleagues will be carrying out enquiries in the area and anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
