Four people released on bail after shooting

Four people arrested after a shooting in Southampton have been released on bail. Unemployed 23-year-old Jamal Jones died from gunshot wounds after being fired upon at a property in St Mary Street, Southampton, on Saturday April 20th.

A 36-year-old woman and three men aged 41, 21 and 18, all from Southampton, have been bailed pending further inquiries until June 11. Detectives have sought to reassure the local community by saying they believe the incident was isolated and related to the criminal activity of those involved.

We understand the public may have some concerns of safety due to the nature of this incident. We do not believe the public are in any danger as we are following a number of lines of inquiry that cause us to believe at this time this is a drug-related incident where the victim and suspects were known to each other in some way, and this incident has occurred as a result of their criminal activity.

– Chief Inspector Craig Dibdin, Hampshire Constabulary
