Police statement - Arrest after hammer attack

A 14-year-old local boy was assaulted with a hammer in Broadfield, Crawley, last night.

Police and paramedics were called to Broadfield Barton at around 9.25pm following reports of a fight between the 14 year old and an older man and woman.

The boy was bleeding from his face and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment.He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

This appears to have been a targeted attack and we are investigating the circumstances that led up to it.

A 38-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, who were arrested a short time after the assault on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, remain in custody for questioning.
