Crane crash causes major delays on M25

Drivers on the M25 in Surrey are being warned to expect severe delays until this evening after a mobile crane collided with a safety barrier early this morning. The anticlockwise carriageway has been closed between junction 9 at Leatherhead and junction 8 at Reigate.

A diversion is in place from junction 10, rejoining the M25 at junction 8. The crane will require specialist heavy lifting equipment to recover, and the anticlockwise carriageway may have to remain closed until the recovery operation is completed.

Delays are expected to become severe, and drivers are advised to check conditions before they set out, and plan their journeys to avoid the area if possible. Live traffic information is available on the Highways Agency’s website
