A 33-year-old man was attacked after approaching a group of people in Ryde, Isle of Wight.
The victim challenged the group after he was concerned about their treatment of their dog.
He was then assaulted by a member of the group, being punched and kicked several times.
The incident happened at 12.30am on Thursday, August 8 in Western Gardens, Ryde Esplanade.
The man was treated at St Mary's Hospital for head and neck injuries and had soft tissue damage.
The offender is described as white, 5ft8ins and of stocky build.
He has brown hair and was wearing a light coloured t-shirt and blue jeans.
It is believed that there were people around the gardens at the time of the incident. It is completely unacceptable that someone who felt the need to challenge the behaviour of another was attacked in this way."
