Police advice to combat bogus callers

Southampton police have issued a warning to residents to be wary of a man who is targeting pensioners.

He falsely claims to work for Age Concern, Dyno Road or Southern Water and demands money for work that has not been carried out.

Police in Bitterne and Portswood had several reports of this man on Thursday, August 8.

The man is described as white, 6ft2ins and of stocky build.

He is in his early 40s, clean shaven with messy brown hair.

At Portswood, an 84-year-old man reported a caller who said he was from Age Concern.

The resident had been expecting a visit from Age Concern to do some work free of charge.

He handed over £500 cash for materials, but the suspect did not return to the property.
