A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body in the Woolston area of Southampton this morning. Police were contacted just after 2 o'clock this morning following reports of a man lying unconscious in Defender Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives have cordoned off the area around the scene for forensic examinations to be undertaken. Police believe the man died from head injuries but a Home Office pathologist is due to carry out a post mortem examination later today. Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
"We are in the very early stages of our investigation and a key part of this is to speak to anyone who may have seen the victim in the area between 10.30pm yesterday evening and 3am this morning. He is in his early 30s and was wearing a white sweatshirt with blue lettering across the chest, dark trousers and carrying a white carrier bag. If you saw anyone matching this description, please get in touch."
