Trials are being carried out in the South to improve the safety of cyclists.
The project is being carried out by the Transport Research Laboratory in Berkshire and includes Dutch-style roundabouts and creating wider cycle lanes.
The project is being welcomed by Peter Bowers', whose daughter Mary lies in a coma two years after being crushed by a lorry on her way to work.
He said, "If that had been in force, it would have helped Mary because, as I understand it, the cycle lane would have a small period of priority over the rest of the traffic."
