A 49-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of a retired police officer.
Stephen Cowdrey from St Augustine Road in Southsea was accused of killing 87-year-old Stanley Carter in his Cosham home.
He was charged at a hearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court for a brief hearing and was remanded in custody.
He will next appear at Winchester Crown Court on friday.
Cowdrey was arrested at Portsmouth police station shortly after police found Mr Carter's body on Sunday night.
