Compared with the planning battles ahead for HS2, a row over the future of white wooden gates on a level crossing at Plumpton Green is a minor skirmish.
But in the small village on the edge of the South Downs National Park in Sussex, anger has been stoked by Network Rail threatening to remove the gates which have been in place for more than 100 years. Charlotte Wilkins reports.
