His was an act of bravery and sacrifice that has never been forgotten.
Every year the crew of the Swanage Lifeboat pay their respects to coxswain William Brown who died during a rescue back in 1895 - the only Swanage crew member ever to be lost at sea.
This year they were joined by William's last surviving grandchild, Marion Mason from Weymouth. And she had a special donation to give to the present day crew. Martin Dowse has the story.
