A Thames Valley Police officer is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a stolen car in Reading. He and a fellow officer were attempting to stop the vehicle on Lower Earley Way West, Whitley at around 5.30pm yesterday. The other officer was unharmed.

The black Mazda Aerosport, registration number KB07 LBV, failed to stop. The vehicle was later recovered in Corrine Close, Whitley, but officers are still attempting to locate the driver. The Mazda was stolen during a burglary in Sonning Common on 21 November.

Assistant Chief Constable John Campbell said: 'Our thoughts are with the injured officer and his family at this time. We would urge anyone who may have any information about these incidents or knows the whereabouts of the driver to call the non-emergency number 101 and quote URN 1104 30/11.'
