TV magician Paul Daniels has escaped a driving ban after arguing he needs his licence in to care for his elderly mother.
Daniels, 75, already had nine penalty points when he was caught driving 56mph in a 40mph limit - 16mph over the legal speed limit and an automatic three more points on his licence.
He was caught by traffic officers speeding on London Road in Earley, near Reading, which has a 40mph limit.
He narrowly avoided being banned from the road after he said he needed to get behind the wheel to be able to care for his elderly mother.
Daniels, real name Newton Edward Daniels, who lives in Wargrave, near Henley-on-Thames, was handed three more points on his licence, which took his total to 12.
The magician was also ordered to pay a £625 pounds fine, costs of £65 pounds, and a £62 pounds victim surcharge.
