Multi-million pound plans to re-develop a rundown area outside Reading railway station have been approved.
The £500 million deal will see a number of buildings demolished and replaced with new shops, offices and up to 300 homes.
The first elements of the redevelopment will start in 2014.
A temporary public event space is expected by the end of 2014 or early 2015, along with new landscaping which will be undertaken by the council.
The joint venture between Benson Elliot and Stanhope is for a mixed-use space including office space as well as retail, leisure and residential developments.
The multi-use leisure facility is expected to include a five-a-side football pitch and running track.
