A murder investigation has been launched after a 31-year-old man from Hythe was killed last night following an altercation on New Year's Eve.
Officers were called to a house at Langdown Road in Hythe at 9pm after the victim sustained serious injuries during a fight.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital but was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.20pm.
Another male, who was 31-years-old, was arrested in Totton at 2.25am this morning and he is currently in custody.
The next of kin have been informed and the post mortem of the body will take place later today.
Detectives leading the investigation are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call 101 quoting Operation Redding.
