The RNLI is urging people to take extra care when visiting the coast and in particular to avoid exposed places where large waves could sweep you off your feet.

It follows an incident in Swanage in Dorset where waves crashed over a dog walker, prompting fears he could have been swept away.

With further weather systems on their way that are likely to bring more large swells and storm surges due to Spring tides the RNLI recommends viewing the rough seas from a safe distance and to remember the sea is always more powerful.
