Dog attack in Weymouth

Officers in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a man and his dog were attacked by another dog on Weymouth Beach. It happened last Tuesday evening near the Esplanade.

The dog, described as light brown, of slim build with shaggy fur, was left badly injured and the man sustained minor hand injuries.

The dog was being walked along the beach off the lead when it was attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The offending dog latched itself on to its throat and had to be pulled away by the victim’s owner and a passer-by. Both the man and his dog had to receive medical treatment. This incident has caused a great deal of distress and left the owner very shocked. I am particularly keen to speak to two women, who also had two or three other dogs with them, who were seen with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier at the time. I urge them to come forward to help us ascertain exactly what happened."
