The French telecommunications company Alcatel-Lucent has announced it is closing its bases in Swindon and Maidenhead at the end of 2015, with the loss of approximately 250 jobs.
The firm will centralise UK operations at a new Bristol site.
Robert Buckland MP (Con, South Swindon) told ITV News that the move is a mistake, as Swindon has developed into a telecommunications hub.
He is creating a task force together with Swindon Council and the local jobs centre to help the workers find new jobs.
