New deal on offer for young people in Wokingham
Expert help to get jobs in the booming local construction industry, a dedicated centre for all careers advice and a new website for young jobseekers – they are all among the benefits coming to Wokingham Borough’s 16 to 24 year olds under the Thames Valley Berkshire City Deal.
The City Deal is a £4.8million agreement signed last year to reduce youth unemployment and promote apprenticeships. The borough will benefit from nearly £600,000 over the next three years, which will be used to reduce the number of young people who are not in employment, education or training.
City Deal funding will also be used to employ ‘brokers’ working with employers in the construction industry to link them with local people looking for work in the sector. Reading’s ‘Elevate Me’ website service will be extended to Wokingham Borough.
