A pensioner from West Sussex who has been accused of killing his wife has been refused bail.
Dudley Boakes, who is 79-years-old, appeared at Lewes Crown Court charged with murdering Sandra Boakes.
The 70-year-old was left critically ill following an attack at the couple's home in Sompting near Worthing on the 3th April.
She died two days later at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Boakes was initially charged with attempted murder but the Crown Prosecution Service later authorised a charge of murder.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear at the same court for a plea and case management hearing on the 27th June.
