On the 6th June 1944, an Allied force of British, American and Canadian troops carried out the largest seaborne invasion in history, landing on the beaches of Normandy in France to begin the liberation of Axis-occupied Europe.

Dakotas take to the air to commemorate D-Day

A fleet of Dakota's took off at lunchtime from an airfield at Lee-on-the-Solent - in the largest cross channel formation since the war.

When they are over Normandy 100 parachutists will jumped out of the planes as part of the 70th anniversary commemorations of D-Day.
