On the 6th June 1944, an Allied force of British, American and Canadian troops carried out the largest seaborne invasion in history, landing on the beaches of Normandy in France to begin the liberation of Axis-occupied Europe.

Prince Charles and Camilla arrive for ceremonies

Prince Charles and Camilla arrive, before proceeding across Pegasus Bridge. They were due to meet Arlette Gondree who runs the cafe on the bridge. It was the first building to be liberated following the night time attack to take the crossing.
