The South was transformed in the lead-up to D-Day. Thousands of planes, ships, vehicles and tents gathered along the coast for weeks alongside Allied troops. That's why events were held closer to home today, with the Princess Royal in attendance. Richard Jones reports.
On the 6th June 1944, an Allied force of British, American and Canadian troops carried out the largest seaborne invasion in history, landing on the beaches of Normandy in France to begin the liberation of Axis-occupied Europe.
