This is the man wanted for questioning after an attack in which a 26-year-old was struck repeatedly with a hammer.

The victim was assaulted as he walked along Gillsmans Hill in St Leonards just before 5pm on 24 March by a man who jumped out of bushes.

The attacker was white, about 40 and over six foot tall with untidy brown hair.

He was slim with hunched over shoulders and had very drawn cheeks. He walked with a distinctive stagger.

"We do not know why the victim was attacked but this appears to be totally unprovoked. We need to find anyone who recognises the description of the attacker or the face from the efit so that we can trace this man. If you have any idea who the man is or where he could be, please contact us."
