A horse is recovering after being rescued from a muddy river bank in Oxfordshire.

A specialist animal rescue unit from the fire service was dispatched to the River Windrush near Willow Farm in Witney on Saturday morning.

The horse, which was trapped in the mud, was pulled to safety. An on call vet was called but the animal was unharmed.

Crew Manager Glen Lee said “Working closely with the vet and the horse’s owner, our firefighters put into practice nationally recognized techniques that allowed the horse to be successfully freed without injury”
