A police officer has been hospitalised after being injured during a routine stop and search in Kent.

Officers stopped a vehicle in Harmer Street, Gravesend, just after midnight on Tuesday 25th July 2017.

It is reported that the driver attempted to make off from the location and an officer received injuries.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody while enquiries are ongoing.

Road closures are in place this morning following the incident and drivers are being advised to avoid the one way system at West Street, Crooked Lane, Queen Street and The Terrace junction with Harmer Street.

Officers say they expect the roads will remain closed for some time so traffic will be a lot heavier in the area than usual.

The injured officer has since been released from hospital.
