Plans for Arundel bypass set to be revealed

Highways England will today announce up to four options for a £250 million pound bypass along the A27 at Arundel - one of the most congested sections of road in the country.

Campaigners say it could be the most controversial new section of road since the Newbury bypass because it's thought one option goes through countryside near the South Downs National Park.

Highways officials say they want to consult on a range of options before making a final decision.

There has been talk of a bypass for fifty years but a number of proposed schemes were ruled out after they were considered bad for the environment.
