Major shake-up of Dorset's healthcare given go-ahead - despite public protests

Poole Hospital is to lose it's A&E department, maternity unit and paediatrics services in a major shake-up of healthcare in Dorset.

The changes mean, the Royal Bournemouth Hospital will now become Dorset's main emergency centre.

Campaigners fear increased travelling time to hospital will cost lives. A protest was held outside this morning's meeting, as health bosses unanimously agreed to re-organise healthcare to plug a funding gap of £158m.

Some community beds will also go across the county, and other hospitals will share services.
