While most undergraduates spent the summer travelling or working, one student from Bournemouth has been receiving treatment for a mystery illness which has left him paralysed and confined to a wheelchair. Twenty-year-old Liam Mcgarry is studying sports science, but the day after he finished his first year exams he collapsed. The keen rugby player was eventually diagnosed with a rare condition called transverse myelitis. This week Liam returned to his studies and wants to raise awareness for his condition. Richard Slee has been to meet him.
Details about the condition can be found here.
