A family of Ice Age mammoth skeletons that were tipped to make hundreds of thousands of pounds have failed to sell at an auction in Sussex.
The rare lot, under the hammer at Summers Place Auctions near Billingshurst, were expected to fetch between £250,000 - £400,000, but failed to reach the reserve price.
The auction house had hoped the low estimate would have encouraged museums around the world to bid for family of mammoths, but it's believed that none of the museums managed to get the required funding in time and subsequently were unable to bid.
Summers Place Auctions are hoping to arrange a sale with the intention to preserve their integrity as a family in the near future. The vendor may consider selling the mammoths individually in a forthcoming auction at Summers Place Auctions.
