Sight by tongue

When Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg was blinded by an explosion in Iraq, he thought he'd lost his sight forever.

Three years on, he's beginning to see again thanks to a quite remarkable pair of glasses. Incredibly they convert images into an electronic signal which is then picked up by a sensor on his tongue stimulating the visual part of his brain.

Lance Corporal Lundberg explained: "It feels like licking a nine volt battery or like popping candy. The camera sends signals down onto the lolly pop and onto your tongue. You can then determine what they mean and transfer it to shapes."
