'No risk to public safety' as police shoot dog

It would probably have been in an area where there weren't any people around before they [the police] would have taken the shot. Obviously when they discharged the firearm there wasn't any risk at all that if they missed they would hit a member of the public or even if the cartridges passed through the dog that there was any risk they would enter someone else.

'Out of control' dog takes 'chunk' out of leg

Police say the dog took a "chunk" of flesh from the man's thigh. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The dog drew blood and was obviously attacking various people. The male had a chunk taken out of his leg - his right thigh - so one would assume he's had quite a nasty bite, which has removed some of the flesh.

The young girl is also treated for a dog bite to her leg. There are no further details of her injuries.

Dog shot dead 'to protect public'

Officers chased it [the dog] for approximately half a mile but it ran into Priors Park, where there were a number of members of the public, including children, in the area. Taser used to control 'dangerous dog'

Officers were called to Despenser Road at 12pm today following reports that a large dog - believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier cross breed - had bitten a 12-year-old girl and a man and was dangerously out of control. When officers arrived, the animal attempted to bite them so a Taser was used in a bid to bring the animal under control. However, the dog ran away and the Taser was used twice more, but the dog could not be stopped.
