Two firefighters have been killed after a gunman opened fire on a crew responding to an early morning fire in Webster, New York, according to the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper.

These photos show the scene of the fire in the town, which is in the north west of New York state, and has a population of around 42,000.

Webster Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier told the Democrat and Chronicle that it is not yet clear how many other firefighters were hit but at least one was injured in the buttocks.

Two firefighters have been killed after a gunman opened fire on a crew responding to an early morning fire in Webster, New York, according to the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper.

Webster Fire Marshal, Rob Boutillier, is quoted as saying that it is not yet clear how many other firefighters were hit but at least one was injured in the buttocks.

Strong Memorial Hospital confirmed another firefighter was being treated, but it is not clear if he was shot or injured in the fire.
