The Monroe County Sheriff has said that the first police officer who arrived at the scene of the house fire in Webster, New York exchanged gunfire with the person who killed at least two firefighters, reports the Associated Press.
"When they got there, they stated to take on rounds and the initial responders were struck," the sheriff said.
'One or more shooters' fired at US firefighters
The police chief of Webster Police, New York, says that four firefighters were shot while responding to a blaze in the town and that two are dead, reports the Associated Press.
Chief Gerald Pickering said that "one or more shooters" fired at the firefighters this morning.
Hospital confirms two firefighters have been brought in
Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, has confirmed that two firefighters have been brought in.
The hospital is not releasing further any information at this stage.
