Six Nations favourites England have claimed the Calcutta Cup with a 38-18 victory against Scotland at Twickenham.

Chris Ashton, debutant Billy Twelvetrees, Geoff Parling and Danny Care all went over for the hosts, while man of the match Owen Farrell added 18 points with the boot.

Scotland had briefly led when Sean Maitland scored the game's first try after 10 minutes, but England proved too dominant, despite Stuart Hogg adding a second half try for the visitors.

Ireland have kicked off the 2013 Six Nations with a compelling 30-22 victory over defending Grand Slam champions Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

Tries from Simon Zebo, Cian Healy and Brian O'Driscoll, backed by a strong kicking display from Jonathan Sexton, saw Ireland race to a 30-3 lead in Cardiff early in the second half.

Second half scores from Alex Cuthbert and Leigh Halfpenny threatened a Welsh revival, but the Irish held on to claim the opening win of the championship.
