Watford's manager Gianfranco Zola has taken his side's outcome with good grace after they lost their Championship match against Leeds United.

"It's been a long day and we tried everything," said Zola.

"We tried everything and they will be okay. They could not make it the easy way so we will go the hard way, the long one. No one can take away what a fantastic season it has been."

Hull's manager and players were in a state of shock as they secured promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Hull City managed to scrape a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City.

Manager Steve Bruce told Sky Sports 2: ""I have been around the block and this was wonderful entertainment, but Jesus Christ, it's put us through the ringer,"

"Overall we deserved it. The ref gave them an unbelievable decision to give Cardiff a penalty but it's our day. I would like to say well done to Watford who pushed us all the way."

Watford, who started the day in third place in the Championship table, lost at home to Leeds and missed the chance to go up to English football's top division automatically.

Gianfranco Zola's team will now compete in the play-offs at the end of the season.
