Detectives investigating historical sexual abuse at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music have made an arrest. A 58-year-old man has been detained at his home in London on suspicion of indecent assault.
The offence relates to the indecent assault of a 21-year-old woman in 1994, while she was a pupil at the Royal Northern College of Music. The man remains in police custody for questioning.
Greater Manchester Police say their ongoing investigation into historic sex abuse at Chetham's School of Music is a "significant" inquiry due to the number of potential offenders and the volume of complaints received.
Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Daniels said many of the women have been persuaded to report attacks by Francis Andrade, who committed suicide after giving evidence at the trial of her former abuser Michael Brewer.
Greater Manchester Police said they have spoke to more than thirty women as part of their ongoing investigation into reported incidents of historic sex abuse at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester.
Following calls from the women, detectives are currently investigating a pool of around 10 offenders.
