Two female passengers, killed in a car crash outside of Swindon, have been named by police as Kerry Staniford, 17, and Shaya Rae Leigh, 18. Another three male passengers are being treated in hospital with serious injuries.

The family of one of the teenage victims killed in a car crash in Swindon yesterday has been taken by police officers to the scene of the tragedy.

18-year-old Shaya Rae Leigh was killed after the car they were travelling in plunged into undergrowth at the side of a road in Swindon, police said. Her family today laid floral tributes at the spot.

Inspector Paul Longden from Wiltshire Police escorted the relatives. He said: “We have appointed family liaison officers to help the families through this terrible time and Shaya’s family asked their officer if they could go to the place where the car left the road.

"The family spent about 25 minutes at the scene”.

Police have appealed to the public not to attempt to stop on the A419 because of the risk of a serious accident on the busy dual carriageway.

Another 20-year-old male passenger, who was taken to a hospital in Swindon, is in a stable condition, the force said.

The teens killed in the crash have been named as Kerry Staniford, 17, and Shaya Rae Leigh, 18.

Police warn against visiting scene of Swindon road crash

Friends and relatives of the two women who were killed when their car left the road in Swindon have been warned by police to avoid leaving flowers at the crash scene for their own safety.

"We have had one or two people pulling up at the scene to pay their respects," a police spokesman said.

"This stretch of road is a clearway with traffic travelling at speeds of up to 70mph.

"Anyone who attempts to stop, no matter how briefly, could be putting themselves and others at risk of serious injury.

Wiltshire police name women killed in Swindon crash

Wiltshire Police have named the two young women who died in a crash in the early hours today near Swindon as 18-year-old Shaya Rae Leigh and 17-year-old Kerry Staniford.

Another three male passengers are being treated in hospital with injuries, and one of them has been described as being "very poorly". All were aged 20-years-old. PC Jeff Rice, of the Roads Policing Unit, said:

This was an horrific incident and we would like to offer our condolences to the families of the two young women who sadly died.

We are very keen to hear from anyone who was on the A419 near the scene at around 5am today. We would also like to hear from anyone with any information about the movements of the people in the car during Friday night and the early hours of Saturday.

Two female passengers were killed when the car they were travelling in plunged into undergrowth at the side of a road in Swindon, police said.

Another three male passengers are being treated in hospital with injuries, and two of them have been described as being "very poorly". All were aged 19 or 20 years.

Police received a report from another driver, who saw the car leave the road, at around 5am this morning. They found the grey Renault Clio some 20 metres from the A419.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses to call 101 and ask for PC Kevin Fry of the Serious Collision Investigation Team.
