UK Border Force: Syrian protesters French responsibility

UK border authorities have said the protest by Syrian refugees at the port of Calais is a matter for the French authorities. In a statement, the Home Office said:

The responsibility for legal and illegal migration in France is the responsibility of the French authorities.

We work very closely on matters of border security with the French authorities to maintain the integrity of the controls.

Syrian refugees in Calais are staging a protest demanding entry into the UK. Two young men are on the roof of the Calais port's departure lounge, threatening to jump unless their demands are met by UK authorities.

20 of the group, of approximately 65 people, are on their third day of hunger strike.

The group want a UK border agency official to come and meet them in Calais, and agree to grant them refuge in the UK.
