Veteran entertainer Rolf Harris will stand trial next April accused of indecent assaulting young girls, a court heard today.

The 83-year-old faces nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.

The trial will start on April 30. A plea hearing at Southwark Crown Court was provisionally set for January 14.

Harris was excused from attending today's preliminary hearing before Mr Justice Nicol at the Old Bailey in London.

Veteran entertainer Rolf Harris has been excused from attending a preliminary hearing for the alleged assault case him taking place at London's Old Bailey today, a judge has said.

Harris faces nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.

The 83-year-old is accused of assaulting two alleged victims, aged 14 and 15 at the time, between 1980 and 1986.

The latest court hearing for the alleged assault case against veteran entertainer Rolf Harris will take place today.

A preliminary hearing will be held at London's Old Bailey as Harris faces nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.

The 83-year-old is not required to attend court today.

At Westminster Magistrates' Court last month his lawyer indicated he will plead not guilty to the allegations.

The Australian artist, musician and television presenter is accused of assaulting two alleged victims, aged 14 and 15 at the time, between 1980 and 1986.
