Showbiz stars in the UK and US showcased an array of impressive costumes last night at a series of parties, fundraisers and performances.

Newsnight presenter ends show with Thriller dance

Newsnight's reputation for being a serious political programme could be under threat after presenter Kirsty Wark ended the show by dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Performers from the Tiffany Theatre College gave their rendition of the famous dance alongside the presenter.

Newsnight also added to the spooky theme by changing their editor's name from Ian Katz to Ian Batz in the credits.

The BBC programme recently hit the headlines after comedian Russell Brand admitted to Jeremy Paxman that he had never voted, leading to criticism from a Tory MP and actor Robert Webb.

Spurs defender plays Halloween prank on teammates

A Tottenham Hotspur player decided to play a Halloween prank on his teammates by dressing up as the Grim Reaper and jumping out on them.

Players including Andros Townsend, Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermian Defoe were brought into a Spurs TV interview room, which was decorated with spooky paraphernalia.

The camera crew and interviewer left the room only for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, wearing a scary mask, to shock them.

Walker, who declared in the video "I'm always on the front line of banter", left some players so scared that they fell to the floor shouting out expletives.

However, defender Jan Vertonghen lived up to his reputation as a tough player by not even flinching when the England international played the prank on him.

Nick Clegg visits Great Ormond Street Halloween party

The Deputy Prime Minister met youngsters at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital today during a special Halloween bash.

Nick Clegg, who was joined by his wife Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, later tweeted: 'Amazing to join the fun and games with staff, patients, families and volunteers at the GOSH Halloween party'.

Halloween forecast: Be prepared when trick-or-treating

Witches' hats and capes will come in useful if you're trick-or-treating this evening.

There will be wet weather from time to time in many locations, as well as blustery winds - particularly in northern and western counties.

Most of the Midlands, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland will get away with drier conditions.

It will also get dark earlier with more cloud cover this afternoon - so don't forget the torches!

Even the Queen is getting into the Halloween spirit - she has been meeting children baking spooky treats during a visit to a new hostel in East Sussex.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have visited several locations in the county today as they carry out a series of royal engagements.
