A man and a woman have died after a light aircraft crashed near the runway at Airbus UK Broughton, police have confirmed.

Police and Air Accident Branch 'investigating crash'

North Wales Police say they are working with the Air Accident Investigation Branch to establish what caused a fatal plane crash at Broughton this afternoon.

The AAIB will lead the investigation.

North Wales Police are currently not in a position to identify the man and the woman who died.

The Coroner has been informed.

Airbus: Broughton crash 'involved private plane'

Airbus has confirmed an incident has taken place at its airport, but said it involved a private plane and not one belonging to the company.

A spokesperson added Airbus did not have information relating to the two people who died in the crash.

North Wales Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and an Air Accident Investigation team is expected to arrive today.

Man and woman confirmed dead in Broughton air crash

A man and a woman have died after a light aircraft crashed near the runway at Airbus UK Broughton, North Wales Police have confirmed.

Police were informed of the incident involving a twin engine light aircraft at 1.07pm today. Police, Ambulance and the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where she later died.

Police are currently at the scene and the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been informed. A full investigation will be undertaken to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
