PlayStation have described the response to the release of their next generation console as "phenomenal" ahead of its midnight release in the UK.
Fans have camped overnight for the release of the PS4 which is set to battle it out with the recently released Xbox one for superiority.
"The response to the PS4 has been phenomenal and we are so grateful for the support and enthusiasm we have seen from gamers who have pre-ordered, as well as those who have shown such dedication in the queue," the managing director of PlayStation, Fergal Gara, said.
"This is a launch PlayStation fans have been really looking forward to; the excitement is plain to see and the countdown is now well and truly on."
One of the UK's leading games retailers says it is expecting to be sell hundreds of PlayStation 4 consoles a minute when it is officially released at midnight tonight.
GAME also revealed that demand for the PS4 is four times higher than it was for its predecessor the PS3.
Excited gaming fans have been queuing ahead of its release tonight, with many camping overnight in a bid to be one of the first to get their hands on the much-anticipated console.
Ian Chambers, GAME chief digital officer, said: "Demand has been phenomenal with pre-order levels four times higher than we saw for PS3.
"We expect to be shifting hundreds of consoles a minute when we open 300 stores tonight at midnight - this really is the start of something special."
Excited gamers are continuing to queue ahead of the release of the eagerly anticipated PlayStation 4 console.
A selection of dedicated fans even camped overnight before queues began to build up outside the launch venue in London's Covent Garden earlier today.
The PlayStation 4 officially goes on sale in the UK on Friday, but Sony has said customers who pre-ordered the machine could collect them from GAME stores a day early.
The next generation console will go head to head with Microsoft's Xbox One which launched last week.
