Gran Scammers Exposed: Tonight Monday 7th September

Tonight exposes criminals who target our elderly and rob them of their life savings. Carers who abuse the trust placed in them and steal from those they are meant to look after. Gangs who target OAPs on their door step and deceive their way into their homes. Scammers swamping pensioners with junk mail and fraudulent prizes. 

Financial abuse of the elderly is the fastest rising type of abuse. Last year Action on Elder Abuse say calls to their helpline doubled and they estimate £42 million was stolen from elderly people living in their own homes. They are now calling for Adult Protection legislation to bring in laws to protect adults in the same way we have laws to protect children and animals.

Tonight meets the families fighting back and confronting the granny scammers. It seems it’s no longer just the police who are using cameras to catch crooks, with spy cameras readily available in shops and online, families are setting their own traps to catch carers and thieves red handed. Tonight hears their stories and finds out what you can do around your home to protect it from thieves.

Plus we hear from Marilyn Baldwin whose mother lost her life savings after her name was put on a suckers list and she was bombarded with scam mail. We interview the detective who investigated the shocking murder of 75 year old Reginald John Baker who was murdered after he let rogue traders into his home and they came back for more. And meet Robert Sampson who with a little help from his daughter Emma rigged up his mothers house with ‘teddycam’ to catch her supposed carer in the act.
