It’s estimated that the increase in university fees in 2012 could leave students up to forty thousand pounds in debt.
And with graduate unemployment at its highest level for more than a decade, universities are now coming under growing pressure to be more open about how their courses will improve job prospects.
Last year the government asked universities to publish employability statements, outlining the potential career benefits and support available to successful sixth form applicants.
Critics say too many of these statements are short of hard facts about the possible outcomes.
Universities UK the organisation which represents over one hundred of Britain’s universities say that information their members provide applicants has improved. They are also currently consulting with the government and education sector on how to make further improvements.
