DiCaprio: We all identify with Gatsby in a weird way

Leonardo DiCaprio has admitted to identifying with his character Jay Gatsby because he was a childhood dreamer.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the Great Gatsby centres around a young and mysterious millionaire and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, in the summer of 1922.

Speaking to Daybreak DiCaprio said: "I think we all identify with Jay Gatsby in a weird way, we all have childhood dreams and as a youth I dreamt of being an actor, for as long as I can remember."

Speaking about the film's director, who worked with DiCaprio on Romeo and Juliet, he said: "I know Baz has a little Gatsby in him, he's created his own life according to his own imagination for sure."
