The family of Catherine Wells-Burr have paid tribute to the university graduate after her body was found in a burning car.

"We have lost our beautiful Catherine; she was full of character, she was caring, loving, and had a bubbly personality. She had a wonderful sense of humour, and was an amazing, special person.

"We would like to express thanks for all the messages of sympathy and support, we have found some comfort in all the kind and thoughtful words that have been said about Catherine and in knowing how well she was loved."

Police investigate of burning car death girl knew her killer

Police are seeking to establish whether a university graduate whose body was found in a burning car knew her killer.

Catherine Wells-Burr, 23, was discovered in her red Ford Focus, abandoned in a field by the side of a road.

One of the theories police are working on is that Miss Wells-Burr knew her killer, but officers are not ruling out the possibility of a random attack.

Tributes have been paid to a young woman found dead in a car near Ilminster. Police launched a murder inquiry after the body of 23-year-old Catherine Wells-Burr was discovered by firefighters on Wednesday.

Today, Maurice Hicks, the head teacher of Holyrood Academy in Chard where Miss Wells-Burr was a former pupil, spoke of his shock.

Everyone at Holyrood Academy is deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news about Catherine. She is warmly remembered as a very friendly young person, gregarious and with a great sense of humour. Our sincere condolences go to her family and friends at this difficult time.

Her death has been described as "tragic and brutal" by detectives involved in the case.

The murder of a young woman discovered in a burning car was "tragic and brutal", detectives have said.

Police said they are treating 23-year-old Catherine Wells-Burr's death as suspicious and a murder inquiry has been launched after her body was found in a red Ford Focus car by firefighters yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: "This is a tragic and brutal incident in which a young woman has needlessly lost her life.

"We are working to establish what happened in the early hours of yesterday morning that led to this car being set ablaze.

"I would like to appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to get in touch with us no matter how small you think that piece of information may be."
