World champion ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were cheered on by thousands of people tonight as they skated with the Olympic Torch. The 1984 gold medallists performed a spectacular three-minute routine with the lit torch at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham.

Their act did not disappoint and the 6,000-strong crowd were in raptures as the pair performed a number of daring lifts and turns on the ice that centred around the flame. Before the Olympians began their routine, Torvill told the crowd: "We are so, so excited right now."
